When did your parents have the “sex talk” with you? My sister and I got a version of it pretty early on. A very close family friend gave my sister a book called How Your Body Works by Judy Hindley and Christopher Rawson Illustrated by Colin King (who is obviously some sort of genius) when she was eight.
When she got to the part about where babies come from, she obviously had a lot of questions.
So my mom gave her the talk. And had this lovely guide to help her.
This is a boy part
and this is a girl part.
This is a boy part when it’s happy!
And then babies happen woo hoo!
When we finally had sex education in school, I had a version of this in my mind. With all those hearts my sister and I were under the impression that babies happen only when you’re in love. How sweet.
My favourite condom ad has apparently vanished from the face of the Internet. I believe it was created by Channel V and featured the funny Indian habit of leaving the plastic on- Leaving it on a new car, on chairs, on the remote control. At the end, a young man walks into a small mobile phone store, looks around, a bit lost and finally points to something. The shop keeper says, “Oh. Condom cover.” (Plastic phone cases, before fancy smart phones came out were called condom covers.) The screen fades to black and says “Be Indian. Use protection.” Are you amazed that this was on Indian television? SO AM I.
Here are some clever print ads.
Apparently Ranveer Singh is going to be in a condom ad. I still think Coach Carr has the best advice.
At least she’s asking!
Have safe sex.
